Your exhaust system is an important component of your car. The two main functions are to reduce the sound caused by the combustion process of your engine and to control the harmful emissions that are created as your engine performs. To ensure optimum engine efficiency and more important the safety, of your passengers we recommend you have your exhaust system checked regularly.

Whether you have a high performance car, utility, 4WD or family car the chances are we can improve the performance and fuel economy. The options are numerous – you don’t have to spend a fortune – it depends on what you are trying to achieve – or how much of the system you wish to replace.

The exhaust system carries away gases created when the fuel and air are burned in the combustion chamber these gases are harmful to humans and our environment. At Maeco we can offer stock replacement and we can manufacture high performance and custom exhaust systems.


Your Exhaust System And It's Functions...

• Exhaust manifold: The exhaust manifold attaches to the cylinder head and takes each cylinder’s exhaust and combines it into one pipe. The manifold can be made of steel, aluminium, stainless steel, or more commonly cast iron.

• Oxygen sensor: All modern fuel injected cars utilize an oxygen sensor to measure how much oxygen is present in the exhaust. From this the computer can add or subtract fuel to obtain the correct mixture for maximum fuel economy. The oxygen sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold or close to it in the exhaust pipe.

• Catalytic converter: These convert harmful carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons to water vapour and carbon dioxide. Some converters also reduce harmful nitrogen oxides. The converter is mounted between the exhaust manifold and the muffler.
